FDA Import Alert 66-80: keep import status separate from medicine approval.
A worked example of our approach to regulatory horizon scanning. The source concerns GLP-1 bulk drug substances entering the US; it does not establish a UK prescribing or patient access position.
Source finding
FDA describes detention without physical examination for relevant imports, with an exception for the firms and products on its Green List. It reports noncompliance in 21% of 48 assessed API sites, reflecting manufacturing deficiencies or failure to answer records requests in time. That is a site assessment finding, not a failure rate for finished medicines.
Date discipline
Both the FDA index and detailed page displayed 9 October 2026 when checked on 12 October. We record that as the current published version. We do not infer the original issue date, or assume that every finding or listed change first occurred on that date.
What the alert does not establish
Green List inclusion is not marketing authorisation for a finished product. The alert does not establish clinical effectiveness, permission to compound, NICE recommendation or UK access. Each requires its own evidence and jurisdiction specific assessment.
Professional interpretation
For a medicines information or governance team, this is a reason to distinguish manufacturing and import evidence from product and clinical claims. Supplier and product statements should be checked against the exact listing and their own applicable sources.
Watch points
- Further revisions to the alert and the exact firm and product listings.
- Separate product authorisation or enforcement actions, where relevant.
- UK evidence and access sources, checked independently before drawing a UK conclusion.
This is a source check, not a forecast or a finding about any particular supplier.
